Opening Pandora's box

Jeff Goldstein, over at Protein Wisdom, is one of my essential reads. He is incisive, direct, occasionally bitchy, and often funny. Today, he took on the stupid law that passed here in Washington State that not only bans, but apparently forces retrograde editing of the word "Oriental" when referring to people. He posted a wonderfully vitriolic rebuttal, and then the comments started pouring in. Amongst the regular posters, there were a few trolls (yes, Aaron, I'm talking about you), a couple of interesting posts, and a few that simply defy belief. Check out the thread, and read all of the comments.

Andrea and Blow Hard have a lot to say about this idiocy, too. Take a look at their blog entries.

"Bitchy"? Me? Pshaw.

Yeah, leave off the `y'.

Pseudonymous Coward, would you like to talk to me? Or just about me, from a safe distance? Either way, not impressed.

As I said, troll.

You and I have nothing to say, Aaron. I am just as inflexible as you are on this subject, and there's nothing that you can say that will make me change my mind, and it's manifestly obvious that there's nothing I can say that would make you change mine.

As to my pseudodnym, people who have a need to know my name, know it. *You* are not one of them.

Then you're not Ronald XXX of beautiful San Diego, California?

Whatever.

Yes, Aaron was able to find my real name. It is out there, for those that really want to do the research. The fact that he found it twelve hours after I threw down the proverbial gauntlet should make it fairly apparent that I am not going to extreme lengths to obscure my identity. That doesn't mean that I will allow my name to appear on the site; that is the reason I edited the comment (something I did not expect to ever have to do).

Well, twelve hours after you tossed down the kid glove, and five minutes after I decided to drop by again.

While you're doing the Stalinist revisionism thang, you might want to clean up that sentence in your challenge, about how you can't say anything that would change your own mind.

Just a suggestion.

No, as grammatically inelegant as it is, I'll leave it in place. The edit comments function is not something I use lightly.

If I were truly into the "Stalinist revisionism thang" as you assert, your entire comment, along with your earlier one, would have disappeared, without comment. The fact that I added the "edited by" string, along with a post explaining why I did so, should disabuse anyone of the notion that I am attempting to muzzle you. Do remember that this is not a public forum; if I want to delete your comments (and block your posts) I can, legally and ethically.

You are exceptionally good at trolling, I will grant you. You have managed to provoke me, which was apparently the intent of this whole exercise. Congratuations.
